The art of concentration and focus
You may not realize it, but the mind is very powerful. It is unlimited in potential. You can create anything you desire just by letting the mind do what it was created by God to do. Every person on this planet has the same capacity in their brain but not everyone uses it. If we were to take a handful of people together and tap into their entire brain function, we could brighten a city for at least a week. This is how powerful the mind is. It is just the choices we make and the beliefs we were programmed with that separate us from successful individuals.
If we can learn how our mind works, we can control it. And once we can control it, we can focus on it. We can’t focus or concentrate on something we don’t understand.
Nobody is holding a gun to our head and telling us that we have to do these things, or we have to associate with such things, we choose to do them ourselves.
We don’t know what comes up tomorrow, and we should not do it if we can’t sustain it. That’s my personal opinion as we only have finite energy and we need to divide it between all the things we love. As the law itself states, you cannot create or destroy energy, but you can only convert or transform it from one thing to another. We just need to know where we are dividing it. We should look at energy just the way we look at money. It’s a finite resource that needs to be managed, reallocated, and invested wisely.
The law of practice says that we can become good at whatever it is we practice whether it’s positive or negative, it doesn’t matter.
If you practice something over and over again, you become really good at it. And that’s why people are so good at distraction. Because it’s what they practice.
Most people consider technology as a major source of distraction. But I disagree, technology in itself is not a bad thing as long as we’re in charge of it.
So, the million-dollar question is how do we become good at concentration?
We start by understanding how our mind works. Our mind is the most powerful tool in the world, it has built a lot of things.
One thing that really drives how our mind works is our awareness. Awareness is like a glowing ball of light. Our mind is like a vast space with many different sections within it. One section can be feelings(happiness, sadness, anger, etc), one area can be related to food, one can be related to any other field like science, or art, and so on. And this glowing ball of light called awareness travels within the mind and it can go to any area of the mind it wants to go to. And when it goes to a particular area of the mind, it lights up that area. When it lights up that area of the mind, you become conscious of it.
And this happens all day, we allow people and things around us to take our awareness from one area of our mind to another all day long, from the time we wake up, and therefore we become distracted.
To become concentrated we have to keep our awareness of one thing for an extended period of time.
How do we practice this?
We practice this by doing one thing at a time, throughout the day. We can develop concentration by bringing this practice into our everyday life. Look at opportunities throughout your day. In your average day ask yourself what’s the best opportunity to practice concentration and work on it, one step at a time.
Whatever you want to do, bring your awareness to that thing. If it drifts away bring it back! The more you practice it, the more you become better at concentration. Give your undivided attention to that particular thing that you want to accomplish.
The benefits of concentration are endless. When you’re able to concentrate, you are able to focus all your energy at a given point. Life is only a manifestation of where our energy is flowing. And if you can’t focus your energy, the things you want to manifest in your life become very challenging.
So, learn to concentrate by doing one thing at a time. Bring this practice into everything that you do throughout your day.
Practice, practice, and practice. Make it a part of your life. Keep bringing your awareness back and keep it focused on one thing at a time. Now, go out and achieve whatever you want!
